A few components retrieved from the wreckage of a helicopter were forwarded to the laboratory for assessing the nature of failure/damages and conformation of the material of construction. Examination revealed that the components examined have either failed by static overload or have secondary damages of various natures. None of the components showed evidences of progressive failure. Evidences suggest that the failure and the damages seen on these components are secondary in nature and would have occurred due to the impact during the crash of the helicopter. The materials of construction of the components were found to conform to the specifications
