Three specimens belonging to failed boiler tube, wash water line and intermediate tube sheet of furnace were forwarded to the laboratory for analysis. Investigation revealed that the boiler tube had failed by stress rupture due to prolonged over heating and the wash water line had failed by sulphide cracking due to sensitization of the stainless steel tube during welding. The fracture surface of the intermediate tube sheet of the furnace was completely destroyed due to corrosion and hence no study could be carried out
