Figure of merit expressions for (a) fuel weight fraction in terms of range and aspect ratio and (b) propeller diameter in terms of power absorbed per blade have been derived. In the case of fuselage length heuristic approach has been adopted. Design and performance data of military propeller trainer airplanes, both piston props and turboprops, have been analyzed. Simple and effective correlations have been evolved for selecting fuel weight fraction, propeller diameter and fuselage length for baseline design configuration of military propeller trainer airplanes
