This report describes new procedures for accurate and economical simulation of two-dimensional separated and free shear flows using the discrete vortex method. The new procedures offer improvement in several important aspects of discrete vortex simulation of complex flow fields, and consist of special vortex release, merger and removal13; strategies, interpretation of vortex patterns, solution of equations of motion and computation of- time-averaged quantities.
