A special purpose finite element package, in FORTRAN, has13; been developed for applications to 3-D constrained media13; elasticity using the 27-noded (HEXA27) and 8-noded (HEXA8)13; hexahedral elements . The data generation (nodal coordinates, element connectivity, boundary conditions and load conditions) is highly automated . A h-type adaptive mesh refinement is introduced and the coreesponding rules are based on a posteriori strain energy norm . The expertise involved in building rules for adaptive mesh refinement is also captured in FORTRAN . The package currently runs on a PC 386 AT under UNIX operating system .
