peer reviewedPhysical education (PE) in Luxembourg is currently characterized by two major developments: the implementation of a new competence-oriented curriculum in PE and the implementation of several measures in the context of a national action plan to promote the physical activity of Luxembourgish children and youth. Since September 2009, a new curriculum based on the German concept of Educating Sports lessons has been applied in secondary schools in Luxembourg. This core curriculum provides expected minimal competencies in six competence areas, which can be achieved in seven movement fields.
