Visual signals play a vital role in the communication of virtually all animal species, many of whom use multiple signals. The importance of multiple signals in the territorial behavior of Agelaius phoeniceus, the Red-winged Blackbird, was studied by looking at responses to the manipulation of its multiple color signals. The results showed minimal difference in response to the variation of signals. Although some color signals showed potential meaning, the overall findings suggest little importance to multiple signal interactions in the territorial behavior of Agelaius phoeniceus.http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/54713/1/3154.pdfDescription of 3154.pdf : Access restricted to on-site users at the U-M Biological Station
