Autecology of the rock bass, Ambloplites rupestris.

Rock bass are well suited to live in both lakes and streams. The gibbose body shape and the fin placement characterize the fish as a maneuver. As a result of their body form they are best fit for structurally complex habitats. These fish are often found in aggregations which help provide protection for the fish from its predators. Resource partitioning occurs in these communities which limits competition. Aggression is evident during the spawning season in attempts to protect nest territory and attract females.
