The Maple River impoundment does not seem to exert a big influence on the river section below the dam in so far as the distribution of those families of benthic organisms are concerned. Its presence, however, results in tremendous increase in numbers and biomass downstream, especially the caddisflies. The east branch is the least productive. The slightly greater productivity of the west branch probably results from substances picked from cattle farms through which it flows. In general, it seems that all three sections of the river are productive enough in benthic organisms to support a good fishery.
