The aim of this article is to highlight the ways firms have contributed to this phenomenon : first, on empirical basis, by studying evolutions of firms locations in urban areas ; second, on theoretical basis, by analyzing scientific controversies in urban planning and geography about the development of industrial parks, shopping centers and leisure parks on the edge of towns.Au cours des quarante dernières années, les dynamiques spatiales en France ont été marquées par le phénomène de la périurbanisation. L'objectif de cet article est de voir comment les entreprises ont contribué à la périurbanisation : sur le plan empirique, à travers les évolutions de la localisation des entreprises dans l'espace, et sur le plan théorique, à travers les controverses scientifiques qui ont porté sur l'émergence des centralités périurbaines autour des zones industrielles, des centres commerciaux, des parcs de loisirs dans les disciplines de l'aménagement et de la géographie.
