1. Predator avoidance behavior of fathead minnow ( Pimephales promelas ) attacked by four teleosts (tiger musky, Esox sp; rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri ; smallmouth bass, Micropterus dolomieu ; rock bass, Ambloplites rupestris ) was analyzed using stop-action video-tape recordings of predator-prey interactions. The predators represented a range of body forms.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/47089/1/359_2004_Article_BF00609671.pd
The predatory behaviour of rainbow trout was studied to identify some of the major factors that infl...
Until the 1970's research on predator-prey interactions in fish was rare. But in the last few decade...
To be successful, individuals that are susceptible to predation have to optimize the trade-offs betw...
To explain why esocids prefer cylindrical, soft-rayed prey over compressed, spiny-rayed prey, we qua...
We exposed groups of four fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) that were familiar to each other and...

Abstract. — We documented differential vulnerability of fathead minnows Pimephales promelas, gizzard...
In some fish, alarm substances are released from skin cells when they are bitten by a predator, sign...
The research attempts to determine the effect on the number of prey eaten by predators of the additi...
We documented differential vulnerability of fathead minnows Pimephales promelas, gizzard shad Doros...
A kinematic analysis of optimal avoidance and evasion techniques for prey is presented. The analysis...

For many years it has been assumed that the alarm reaction in fishes to alarm substance, also called...
A diversity of fishes release chemical cues upon being attacked by a predator. These cues, commonly ...
To survive, prey must recognize predators and appropriately respond to the associated risk. Some pre...
