In this study, the crack growth behavior and shear stress distribution under typical loading conditions is studied for a composite bonded joint. A novel approach of strain measurement is presented by using a high-resolution digital image correlation system (DIC) which allows detailed investigations of the shear strain distribution within the bondline. By testing 7 different load levels with 3 specimens each in fatigue the crack growth rates, the crack growth threshold and the Paris Law correlation are obtained for an aerospace epoxy adhesive
