This paper presents a utter analysis for the supercritical CAST 10-2 airfoil and the laminar NACA 64-008 airfoil in a flow with free boundary layer transition based on CFD computations. For transition prediction the γ-Re_θ transition model is used. The results are compared to fully turbulent results obtained with the SST k-ѡ model. Unsteady RANS computations at Re = 2e6� are used to determine the aerodynamic derivatives, required to identify the utter boundary for a 2 degree-of-freedom model. At the limits of the laminar drag bucket a decrease in utter stability can be found for both airfoils and the given structural model.
