This paper presents an analytical model describing the flow-heating effect on the wave-drag reduction of blunt bodies. The key mechanism simulated is the phenomenon called “hot-spike” effect. Due to the heating of the initially supersonic flow in particular the stagnation pressure are decreased inside the heated wake. If the deficit of the total pressure upstream of the bow shock wave becomes high enough, a free recirculation bubble in the front of a blunt body accompanied by a favorable transformation of the bow-shock structure appears. The validation of the method is conducted by experimental and numerical results obtained former at Mach 3. The comparison presented demonstrates excellent agreement particularly for detached-shock model con...
