DLR provided to the Innovative Future Air Transport System (IFATS) project a tool that simulates aircraft flying a 4D contract. With this tool one day traffic over Frankfurt airport with all the aircraft arriving and departing in Frankfurt (approx. 1000) was simulated. Normal situations were demonstrated together with disturbances such as thunderstorm, degraded performance aircraft and aircraft facing an emergency. At the DLR Air Traffic Simulator simulations were conducted with “real” ATC and pseudo-pilots in comparison to fully automatic IFATS mode
