Occultation is used for computing profiles of the ionosphere from GPS observations. If LEO satellites like CHAMP or GRACE are moving behind the Earth, the GPS signal observed by the onboard GPS receiver is occulting through the ionosphere. The presentation summarizes the physical background, mathematical approach and results received for CHAMP and GRACE
