In contrast, when tannic acid is added to Manduca sexta midgut fluid, less than 31% of the tannic acid added to the gut fluid is converted to a form that can be centrifuged into a pellet. The rest remains in the supernatant solution in the form of a colloidal suspension. Very little of the tannic acid, if any, remains in true solution.
