By the national DeMARINE projects the German contribution to GMES shall be strengthened in the areas of marine environment (DeMARINE-Environment) and maritime safety and security (DeMarine-Security). Moreover, the development of services, which fulfill the requirements of the German users in an optimal way, shall be supported. The DeMarine-Environment research initiative, funded by the Federal Ministry of Econimics and technology through the German Aerospace Center (DLR), has been launched in early 2008 with the prupose to respresent the users' interests at a national and European level.
