Many cellular ceramic materials are used in high temperature applications such as insulating materials, heat exchangers, solar receivers or porous burners. Consequently the knowledge of their thermal properties is essential for the designing engineer. Some quantities such as the heat capacity may be easily derived from the solid and gaseous components of the cellular ceramic, for others such as the thermal conductivity this derivation is complex and temperature dependent. Additionally, similar to the mechanical properties, the thermal properties strongly depend on the chemical composition and the manufacturing process. This emphasizes the need for measurements.
