Within the framework of DLR-CAE cooperation two design codes for transonic airfoils are exchanged. The first method is developed at NPU, Xian, China, and based on the iterative residual correction concept; the second one is a DLR modification of the artificial viscosity method of McFadden. Parameter investigations with both methods have been carried out,several different design examples have been performed. The results are compared and show that both methods are equally capable in designing transonic airfoils
