A new approach is described for multidisciplinary simulation, i.e., the simulation of models, which consitst of components from different engineering disciplines. The central part of this approach consists of the definition of a neutral (low level) interfaace for general event-driven ordinary differential equations and differentialalgebraic equations, called DSblock (= Dynamic System block). Severalpreprocessors have been realized that generate DSblocks from models of existing modelling environments from different domains. Furthermore a run time environment is availbalbe to simulate DSblocksin an interactive way
