The microwave spectrum of cyclopropane [middle dot] ammonia. A novel structure for cyclopropane complexes

The microwave spectrum of the cyclopropane[middle dot]ammonia (C3H6[middle dot]14NH3) complex has been observed using a pulsed nozzle, Fourier-transform microwave spectrometer. The spectrum is characteristic of a symmetric top, B0=2668.7161(4), with free internal rotation of the NH3 subunit. The spectra of the C3H6[middle dot]15NH3, C3D6[middle dot]15NH3, and C3H6[middle dot]14ND3 isotopomers were also measured. This gives a structure in which the nitrogen of the ammonia interacts with the top of the cyclopropane ring, resulting in a stacked structure with Rc.m.=3.657(3).
