The aerosol dynamics module MADE has been coupled to the general circulation model ECHAM. The new model system ECHAM4/MADE allows for significantly improved representation of aerosols and their related size-dependent physical and chemical processes within global model simulations. In addition to particle mass concentrations, also particle number concentration and size-distribution can be simulated explicitly taking into account detailed aerosol dynamical processes such as coagulation, nucleation, and condensation.
