The aim of this work is the quantitative measurement of the positions and strengths of vortices. In the frame of this work, the applicability of the Background Oriented Schlieren method (BOS) was extended. Basic considerations of the resolution and sensitivity of the method enables the prove that the determination of a two-dimensional density distribution was possible quantitatively. The exactness of the results was checked by another known measurement technique
