For the investigation of fast repetitive, e.g. periodic, phenomena the high-speed video stroboscope proposed by the author offers significant benefits. It provides a real-time, slow-motion display of these events with simutaneous frame recording. The paper describes the idea of the system operation and its advantages over the high- and ultra-high-speed video cameras. The results of the application in the investigation of visualised flows, machine motion, cavitation, human larynx vibration and insect flight, as well as in diagnostics of gas turbine and combustion engines (including fuel injection in the latter case) are given
