There are several quantities which can describe and compare the quality of traffic control systems. Among them are the number of stops of an average vehicle experiences during ist passage through the city as well as the relation between trip time and stop time. to measure these quantities for a whole city or a part of it, detection loops or other stationary sensors are not appropriate because of their sparse location. Areawide detection, instead, with probe vehicles data can provide the necessary data. We present the results of the analysis of urban traffic with vehicle probe data from taxi fleets. Several different methods of analysis are compared
