This paper addressed the effects of irregular azimuth sampling. Consequently the conditions for unambiguous imaging are violated, which is shown for high resolution X-band ISAR measurements. On the background for automatic recognition of relocatable military targets, a filtering method is presented which suppresses the speckle noise and the ambiguities caused by the irregular sampling. The method extracts the most robust scattering centers of the target in depencence of the radar´s illumination direction. This is achieved by an investigation of the signal phases to perform a coherence analysis
