The management of Ghana's Forests has attracted diverse social actors with multiple interests from the state (Forestry Commission, FC) to local level (local forest users). This has resulted in processes and mechanisms within and outside the legal system of gaining access to the forests and related resources. Mechanisms within the legal system include the forest governance policies which necessitates gaining access through a permit from the FC. The bureaucratic and sometimes frustrating nature of the permit system has served as a springboard for certain social actors such as farmers and chainsaw operators, to put up crafty ways of accessing and benefitting from the forests.
