This master’s thesis explores the political ambitions behind the Norwegian aid effort to the Middle East between 1993 and 2000. It seeks to comprehend why the Norwegian aid to the Palestinians increased as the peace process deteriorated. Moreover, it asks the question whether the belief that economic prosperity in the occupied territories would lead to peace, entrapped Norway in a pattern where it was committed to increase economic support in the aid effort as the situation between the PLO and the Israelis deteriorated
