The study, on which this thesis is based, is part of a larger research program entitled Work Design, Productivity and Health funded by the Norwegian Research Council as part of the Health in Working Life research program. The longitudinal study was conducted in thirteen electricity generation and distribution companies in Norway from 1999 to 2002. There has been a change in the work organisation in the Norwegian electric energy branch since the deregulation in 1991. The new competitive situation for the electric energy sector has led to a need for restructuring and flexibility.
