We measured an essentially normal pedestal effect using stationary gaussian targets and slowly moving pedestal gratings. Since these conditions greatly reduce the information provided by the pedestal, we question whether uncertainty about the stimulus can be the main cause of the pedestal effect.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/25026/1/0000453.pd
