This chapter presents a developmental formulation of the nature of ADHD and its course over time. It covers diagnosis – based on DSM5 – and its limitations, clinical assessment, epidemiology, genetic and environmental risks, and the way the risk factors interact to make for brain and psychological alterations. Treatment sections include the range of psychological and physical treatments and their application to complex and refractory case
