Objective: postnatal HIV-1 mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) occurs in spite of antiretroviral therapy. Co-infections in breast milk with cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) are associated with increased HIV-1 shedding in this compartment.
