Atlas of Living Australia (ALA)

The Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) collects biodiversity information from research, literature, records and Australia\u27s natural history collections and making it freely accessible online. As it develops, the ALA will deliver reliable and comprehensive information on Australia’s biodiversity, including images, occurence and distribution data, maps, literature, genetic sequences and taxonomic information. By integrating this wealth of information, the ALA can support research, education and decision making on issues such as biosecurity, food security, climate change, primary production, global change management and conservation. Users will be able to contribute sightings of plants and animals and download a range of tools to assist in the study, identification and management of our native plants, animals and micro-organisms. (Data on the site will go live in September 2010 but you can register to receive updates and view information on how the system will develop now).
