This paper reports on ten-year trends in NSW State finances between 2003/04 and 2012/13 (inclusive). For some of the key indicators, the paper also shows trends for the last two (53rd and 54th) Parliaments, and for the first two years of the current (55th) Parliament. This paper sets out the key trends but only briefly discusses the reasons for the trends. A full analysis of the trends up to 2010/11 appears in the NSW Financial Audit 2011 (Ch 2-4). An important point to bear in mind is that Federal Government funding can have a significant impact on the trends outlined in this paper.
