Reconceptualising transitions:whose transition is it anyway?

There is a healthy focus on students’ transitions as this has a massive impact on their willingness and motivation to learn, and overall wellbeing. In this presentation, the author argues that university students make multiple transitions that are not only educational but also life transitions. Further, they are not the only ones undergoing transitions at such times. Their families and professionals are also experiencing transitions. Various theories such as Resilience theory, Ecological Systems theory, Educational and Life Transitions theory, Multiple Multi-dimensional Transitions (MMT) Models, will be used to stimulate consideration of a change in the way transition is approached by universities. Author argues that universities need to consider holistic transition support needs of not only students, but also their families, professionals and significant others
