BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The 5-hydroxytryptamine type 3 (5-HT3 ) receptor is a member of the pentameric ligand-gated ion channel (pLGIC) family and are pharmacologically targeted to treat irritable bowel syndrome and nausea / emesis.
