Presented as part of the Atlanta Global Studies Symposium on April 26, 2019, Session 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bill Moore Student Success Center, President's Suite C.Peter Brummund is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Alabama, and an IZA Research Affiliate.Alejandro Del Valle is an assistant professor of risk management and insurance in the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. His work on development economics includes the study of health insurance and its impact on health and labor market behavior.Shatakshee Dhongde is an Associate Professor in the School of Economics at Georgia Tech. She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside. She is a research affiliate with the Institute of Research on Poverty at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.Mateusz Filipski studies issues of development in rural areas around the world. His research interests include rural transformation, migration, mechanization, technology adoption, health economics, and consumer behavior (among others). Much of his research has focused on evaluating the economic impacts of programs and policies that aim to improve the lives of rural populations. He uses both econometric and structural modeling methodologies to shed light on those issues. Prior to joining UGA, he was a Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). His most recent research has been focused on the countries of Ethiopia, China, and Myanmar.Xuepeng Liu is a Professor of Economics at Kennesaw State University.Nicholas Magnan is an Associate Professor of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Georgia.Paloma Moyano is visiting faculty at Emory University in the Department of Economics. Her research interests are health economics, development economics and economics of education.Stephen O'Connell is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Emory University.Abhra Roy in an Associate Professor of Economics, Finance, & Quantitative Analysis at Kennesaw State University.Dr. Taylor is Chair of the School of Economics at Georgia Tech. Her research focuses on policy evaluation and the valuation of natural resources and the environment.Dr. Laura Taylor is Chair of the School of Economics at Georgia Tech. Her research focuses on policy evaluation and the valuation of natural resources and the environment.Dr. Angelino Viceisza is an associate professor of economics at Spelman College and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). He specializes in the fields of development and agricultural economics, experimental and behavioral economics, and entrepreneurship.Laura Zimmermann is an assistant professor in the Department of International Affairs and the Department of Economics at the University of Georgia. Her research interests are in the areas of economic development and political economy with a focus on South Asia.Runtime: 118:09 minutesThis session will highlight frontiers of research in the area of development economics. This is the first time scholars who are actively conducting research in development economics, will come together in the hope of forming a professional network to enhance collaboration among higher educational institutes in Atlanta and nearby areas
