This book is a result of a three-year effort by the Carnegie Mellon Computer Science Department to develop a unified undergraduate computer science curriculum. The study, conducted by an eight-member Curriculum Design Group, responds to this rapidly changing field by emphasizing a balanced blend of fundamental conceptual material which the student can adapt to new situations, with examples drawn from the best of current practice.
