Evaluation of viability for the implementation of desalination plants using renewable energies in the region of Colombian la Guajira

This script is focused on the evaluation of the viability of implement a desalination plant in the region of Colombian Guajira driven by renewable energy; starting with a search for information about each one of the renewable energy and those that have been implemented in Colombia, afterwards each of the desalination processes and the possible combinations of these with renewable energies are evaluated. Finally the information about the geographic, social and economic conditions of the region is search, besides the access to drinking water that the inhabitants have, in order to choose the desalination system and energy that better fits to the conditions of the Guajira region. According to the research the wind power and photovoltaic solar energy, both are very promising thanks to the weather and climate conditions in Guajira, but with the bibliographic revision is recommended the use of photovoltaic solar energy with the reverse osmosis system that has low energy consumption.Este trabajo está enfocado en la evaluación de la viabilidad para implementar una planta desalinizadora en la región de la Guajira Colombiana, impulsada por energía renovable; se inicia con una búsqueda de información sobre cada una de las energía renovables y aquellas que se ya han implementado en Colombia, posteriormente se evalúan cada uno de los procesos desalinizadores y las posibles combinaciones de estos con las energías renovables, finalmente se busca información sobre las condiciones geográficas, sociales y económicas de la región, además del acceso al agua potable que tienen los habitantes, con el fin de escoger el sistema y energía que mejor se acopla a las condiciones de la región de la Guajira. De acuerdo a la investigación, respecto al tipo de energía renovable, la eólica y la solar fotovoltaica, son muy prometedoras gracias a las condiciones de tiempo y clima de la Guajira, pero dada revisión bibliográfica se recomienda la energía solar fotovoltaica junto con el sistema de ósmosis inversa de bajo consumo energétic
