Neue Forschungen zu Burg Brink in Ballum-Østerende, Kommune Tønder

New archaeological research on BrinkCastle has enriched our knowledge aboutthis medieval site. Everyday life on “hovedgårdBrink” was already known from itsaccountings written in 1388 / 89. The recentexcavations revealed this “gård” (farmstead)being a heavily fortified castle withsolid curtain walls and a wide moat. Itsfortified inner area of about 60 × 45 mnearly matches the size of the inner castlesof Vordingborg, Hammershus, Kalundborg,or Nyborg and makes Brink to oneof the largest Danish castles. This size, itsexposed topography and its broad rangeof finds dating back to the 13th century, resemblesan older, hypothetic royal castleat Brink site that once was given to Ribebishopric.
