Periodontal biotype as a factor in gingival recession in adults attending periodontal Posgraduate Clinic UNMSM, Lima Peru

El biotipo periodontal describe cualitativamente la encía alrededor del diente. Este trabajo busca mostrar la relación entre la recesión gingival y el biotipo periodontal. Se seleccionó 50 pacientes de la Clínica de Posgrado de Periodoncia UNMSM. Se evaluó la recesión por pieza, región y arcada según el Índice de Recesión de Miller. Luego se examinó con sonda periodontal el biotipo periodontal de acuerdo a las siguientes regiones: anterosuperior, anteroinferior, posterosuperior y posteroinferior. Se halló relaciones estadísticamente significativas entre la presencia de recesión y el biotipo fino, en los sectores posterosuperior y posteroinferior. (P=0.02 y P=0.002 respectivamente). También, se encontró una relación significativa entre la presencia de recesión gingival e higiene oral en el sector anterior y posterior (P=0.003 y P=0.012 respectivamente). This paper tries to show a relation between gingival recession and periodontal biotype. 50 patients attending Clinica de Posgrado de Periodoncia UNMSM were scheduled for evaluation. Gingival recession was recorded using Miller Recession Index and periodontal biotype was recorded by periodontal probe translucency in four regions: Upper buccal anterior, upper buccal posterior, lower buccal anterior and lower buccal posterior. There are statistical significant relationships between gingival recessions and thin periodontal biotype in upper and lower buccal posterior regions (P=0.02 and P=0.002 for each one).
