Documentary series for the study of power in the Hispanic Universities of the 16 th – 18 th centuries : the Salamanca case

Objetivo. Identificar y analizar las series documentales conservadas en los archivos históricos universitarios que son de utilidad para el estudio del poder universitario durante los siglos XVI-XVIII. Para ello nos centraremos en el estudio de la más importante de las universidades clásicas: la Universidad de Salamanca. Método. Seguiremos la metodología institucional, según la cual, en primer lugar estudiaremos la institución productora de la documentación, para posteriormente analizar la documentación generada e identificar las series objeto de estudio. Resultados. Tras el análisis de las diferentes procedencias y series documentales generadas, concluiremos que el análisis del poder universitario refiere documentación procedente del Archivo Histórico Antiguo (documentos fundacionales, Constituciones, privilegios y bulas pontificias; Estatutos, provisiones, cédulas y privilegios reales, etc.) de la Secretaría del Estudio(esencialmente lo concerniente al gobierno interno con especial mención a las series emanadas de los claustros académicos), del Maestrecuela y Audiencia Escolástica y de las múltiples y variadas procedencias de las instituciones vinculadas esencialmente colegiales, que, naturalmente, generan una documentación para el estudio de sus estructuras de gobierno y poder. Conclusiones. Las conclusiones pueden ser transferidas a gran parte de las universidades peninsulares e iberoamericanas, que siguen en gran medida el mismo modelo fundacional y estatutario que la Salamantina.Objective. Identify and analyze the documentary series preserved in the university historical archives that are useful for the study of university power during the XVI-XVIII centuries. For this we will focus on the study of the most important of the classical universities: the University of Salamanca. Method. We will follow the institutional methodology, according to which, first we will study the institution that produces the documentation, to later analyze the generated documentation and identify the series under study. Results After the analysis of the different provenances and documentary series generated, we conclude that the analysis of the university power refers to documentation from the Old Historical Archive (foundational documents, Constitutions, papal privileges and pacts, statutes, provisions, royal certificates and privileges, etc.). the Secretariat of the Study (essentially what concerns the internal government with special mention to the series emanated of the academic cloisters), of the Maestrecuela and Hearing Scholastic and of the multiple and varied origins of the institutions linked essentially collegial, that, naturally, generate a documentation for the study of their structures of government and power. Conclusions The conclusions can be transferred to a large part of the peninsular and Ibero-American universities, which follow to a large extent the same foundational and statutory model as the Salamantina.peerReviewe
