When an object is entering the atmosphere of Mars at hypersonic speeds, a detached shock layer is forming in front of the said object accompanied by a high-enthalpy non-equilibrium plasma with high radiative intensity. Several studies have already been conducted about the necessary protective layer for the object to withstand such physico-chemical conditions, however the chemical phenomena concerning CO2 recombination around the back of the object are not too well known ; the radiative quantities coming from this recombination are often given with large error margins because of this.
