Biophilia and the Art of Sustainable Living

Many movements have emerged that support eco-friendly behavior in daily life in response to human patterns of wasteful consumption. These include biophilia, zero-waste living, and other sustainability processes. These movements serve to promote mindful and eco-friendly choices, often called “minimal-waste living.” In the arts, movements are commonly adapted through Craftivism, meaning, social activism through craft. I appreciate what has been done to raise awareness of eco-sustainability, and am taking my own stand as an artist by forgoing consumption of short-term mass-produced items and focusing on producing personal projects with reused materials, while using art as a medium to promote balance. Here I discuss how one can learn about self-sustainability in daily life and in art through biophilia, hoping to inspire the viewer to seek their own balance. No single individual can save the world, but together we can make a change
