Many areas of the world are suffering greatly from lack of treated water. Environmental Engineers create treatment plants on the large scale to provide large cities with treated water for drinking, laundry, agriculture, and many other things. To do this, new treatment plants are implemented in areas that are growing rapidly and other treatment plants are updated to provide for new demands. This thesis goes through the steps of building new treatment plants and updating ones already in use to provide the highest standard of water at a reasonable price. The two plants that are looked at are a water treatment plant in Charleston, South Carolina and a wastewater treatment plant located in Reno, Nevada. The population is growing rapidly in both ...
