Relación entre el nivel de pensamiento y el estilo cognitivo dependencia-independencia de campo en estudiantes universitarios

After several investigations on the thinking levels of secondary and university students it is necessary to look for other factors to explain the cognitive performance of university students. A sample of 408 students from different programs was chosen. Two tests were applied: The formal thinking test, TOLT, and the test of masked figures for adults, GEFT. As working hypothesis we established the existence of a relationship between the thinking level and the cognitive style, DIC, in the sample, as well as the relationships between additional variables such as age, program, semester and gender. In order to do so the correlation coefficients of Pearson and of Spearman were used. Our results confirm previous results having to do with thinking levels but they establish that there is no relationship between the basic variables of our study. Psychology as a profession.Después de realizar varios estudios sobre los niveles de pensamiento en estudiantes de secundaria y universidad, se concluye la necesidad de buscar otros factores que puedan explicar el desempeño cognitivo de estudiantes universitarios. Para ello se escogió una muestra de 408 estudiantes de ocho programas académicos y se les aplicó dos pruebas: la prueba de pensamiento formal, TOLT, y el test de figuras enmascaradas para adultos, GEFT. Se estableció como hipótesis de trabajo la existencia de relación entre el nivel de pensamiento y el estilo cognitivo DIC en la muestra estudiada, así como relaciones entre variables adicionales como la edad, el programa, el semestre y el sexo. Para ello se utilizaron el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson y el coeficiente de correlación de Spearman. Los resultados confirman resultados anteriores en cuanto al nivel de pensamiento pero establecen que no hay relación entre las variables básicas del estudio.
