Evaluación del desempeño de la planta de tratamiento de aguas residuales urbanas de ILHA Solteira (SP) por lagunas facultativas primarias

The main objective of this research was to evaluate the performance of IlhaSolteira­SP Sewage Treatment Plant during the different yearly cli­matic seasons. A bathymetric survey of the primary facultative lagoons, a 24­hour monitoring and the tracking of its performance in 3 stages of collection of 3­month long each were conducted. The plant had almost 40% of its effective volume occupied by sludge; the final effluent registered an average BOD removal efficiency of 80,2%; only 3 samples reported values of MPN of Faecal Coliforms under the limit of 1000/100mL defined by legislation; in the third stage, the effluent recorded settleable solid values above the permissible limit of 1,0 mL/L. Most of the time and despite of the climate variations, the plant met the Brazilian environmental regula­tions in terms of BOD removal and settleable solids, but infringed the regulations in terms of the MPN of fecal coliforms, making the need to set up a post­treatment system to reduce the eventual environmental impact caused by the effluents and the risks to public health in the discharge area and downstream the dumping final point evident.El objetivo principal de esta investigación fue evaluar el desempeño de la Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales de Ilha Solteira­ SP durante las diferentes épocas climáticas del año. Se realizó un levantamiento batimétrico de las lagunas facultativas primarias, un monitoreo de 24 horas y el seguimiento de su desempeño en 3 etapas de colecta de 3 meses de duración cada una. La planta tuvo cerca del 40% de su volumen efectivo ocupado por lodos; el efluente final registró una eficiencia media de remoción de la DBO de 80,2%; únicamente 3 muestras reportaron valores de NMP de Coliformes Fecales menores al tope de 1000/100mL definidos por la legislación; en la tercera etapa, los valores de sólidos sedimentables superaron el límite permisible de 1,0 mL/L. La mayor parte del tiempo y pese a las variaciones climáticas, la planta cumplió con la normatividad ambiental brasilera en términos de remoción de DBO y sólidos sedimentables, pero transgredió la norma en cuanto a NMP de Coliformes Fecales, evidenciando la necesidad de implementar un sistema de pos tratamiento que reduzca los eventuales impactos ambientales producidos por los efluentes y los riesgos a la salud pública en la zona de descarga y aguas abajo del vertimiento
