Social network membership and biography should influence a person’s travel behaviour through the shape of his/her mental map and social network geography. The paper discusses the survey contents, which need to be added to the current set of questions asked in travel behaviour surveys, if we want to capture these concepts. The discussion proceeds conceptually as there is little empirical work so far, on which one could draw. The challenges involved in integrating these question sets are considerable.
