The preparation and electrochemistry of dispersed Pt metal on nanoporous titanium dioxide coatings is described. It is shown that photocatalytic deposition of Pt centres on a nanoporous titanium dioxide layer fabricated from TiO2 nanoparticles leads to high surface area electrocatalysts. The reactions investigated are the evolution of hydrogen and the oxidation of carbon monoxide and methanol
